Port Captain Musings

It’s been a jam-packed late summer and early fall with many of the Delta Yacht Clubs stopping by BBYC as part of their bay cruises; among them Sacramento Yacht Club, Benicia Yacht Club and others. The new β€œE-Dock” has sported racing sailboats during the Knarr Regatta, and multiple motor cruisers and tugs with their associated dock parties! October is packed with cruise-ins during the weekend of a BBYC Cruise-Out, so please reach out to us if you can volunteer to cook or man the bar.

Scheduled Cruise-ins:

  • Sept. 29 –Oct. 1: Sacramento Yacht Club
  • October 16 -18; Benicia Yacht Club
  • October 18 -20; Sequoia Yacht Club
  • October 18-19; Bay View Yacht Club
  • Nov 5th – SF Bay Area Nordic Tug Association (SFBANTA) – Cruise-In + Speaker

The San Francisco Bay Nordic Tug Association is cruising in and bringing a speaker on November 5th. This event will be open to all members and friends and should be a great chance to ask questions and listen to stories of Yacht Vs Ferry encounters in the Bay.

Allyn Schafer is a boat captain who has worked professionally on the San Francisco Bay for over 40 years. He currently works as a casual vessel master for Golden Gate Ferries and holds a 500 ton Master, 1600 ton Mate on near coastal waters license. He also holds a Master of Towing Vessels and AB unlimited credentials, and all of his licenses reflect 42 years of time qualified as a US Coast Guard Master.

See you out on the Bay!
